Off-Season Call Storage
🦃 How to Store Turkey Mouth Calls in the Freezer
✅ Why Freeze Them?
Latex dries out, cracks, or sticks together over time—especially in heat or humidity. Freezing slows down that deterioration.
🧊 Step-by-Step Storage Method:
1. Clean the Calls First
-
Rinse mouth calls gently with lukewarm water to remove saliva, debris, and moisture.
-
Optionally, sanitize with a very mild mouthwash-water solution (50/50 mix). Swish or soak briefly (15–30 seconds).
-
Rinse again with water afterward to remove residue.
-
Let air dry completely before storing (crucial to prevent mold).
2. Use Plastic Containers or Bags
-
Place each call in a separate plastic container or zip-top bag to avoid sticking.
-
Do not stack latex reeds directly on each other.
3. Label & Date (Optional)
-
Label the container or bag with the type of call and date stored.
-
Makes it easy to keep track of age and rotate calls season to season.
4. Freeze
-
Store in the freezer, not the fridge. Freezing halts degradation, while fridges may allow mold growth due to moisture and temps above freezing.
